Congratulations Brad, Drew and Tyler!

Brad Visser was selected this year by the Associated Press to be a first team class C All-State basketball player. Brad has scored over 1,250 points in his three year career as a varsity player at Calvin Christian. He led the Squires in 20012-13 to an 18-2 regular season record. For the first time in many years the Squire team defeated all of the Christian schools on the schedule and won the districts. Brad led the way by averaging 22.5points, 4.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2.6 steals per game. He was also nominated by officials for the Dan Nameth award for showing outstanding sportsmanship. Brad has truly left his mark on Squire basketball.

Calvin Christian’s All-State swimmer Drew Besselsen was undefeated in regular season individual races for the 2012-2013 season. He placed 6th in the Fly and 13th in the 200 IM at the MHSAA State finals. Drew also set squad and school records in the 100 Butterfly and 200 IM with times of 52:01 and 1:56.87 respectively. Drew also holds school records in the 100 Breast stroke, 100 Back stroke, 200 Freestyle, 500 freestyle. Despite his tremendous success as astudent-athlete he remains one of the most humble and respected kids on the team.

Tyler Bylsma wrestled three years for Calvin Christian, and in his senior season became its second All-State wrestler. He is also the Squire’s first individual Academic All-State wrestler. Tyler capped his senior season with a sixth place finish at the Individual State Championships at The Palace in Auburn Hills. On the road to earning All-State, Tyler knocked out several current and previous All-State wrestlers. Tyler had forty-five wins on the season and only lost to four other wrestlers. He was the captain of the team and named by his peers the season MVP. Tyler led the team in wins, takedowns, escapes, pins, fastest pin and consecutive wins by pin. Tyler leaves the program with ninety-one career wins and single season record of twenty-five pins. Tyler truly had a great three-year career.
